REQUIREMENTS

We advise having hiking experience as the trail is sometimes steep and slightly bumpy. The stages are quite long - we will walk about 6/7 hours a day.

ABOUT

The Grigne by Lake Como are the mountains that best represent alpinism in this region, and a real gemstone in the Italian Alps. Characterised by its spires and towers of rock, the Grignetta - the smallest of the two main peaks of the massif, at 2177m - is a beautiful yet unforgiving mountain. Its geography and geology make it an incredibly varied ground for all kinds of mountain disciplines, from easy paths for the 'Sunday hikers', to very challenging multi-pitch climbs and alpine routes.

This is a place that has seen some of the most accomplished Italian climbers and mountaineers, like Riccardo Cassin and Walter Bonatti, that used to come here to sharpen their skills and prepare themselves for bigger, more challenging climbs. Our adventures will take us atop this mountain through its ridges and gorges, to savour the beautiful nature and alpine feel of this unique place.

ITINERARY

Welcome to Italy!

Shortly after arriving at the airport you will be either be picked up, or we will arrange public transport to take you to the accommodation.

Once there, we’ll do an initial briefing to go over the plan and aims of the weekend. There will be opportunity for questions followed by free time and dinner.

We’re up bright for breakfast followed by a day of hiking from Pian Dei Resinelli to Grigna Peak via the Cermenati Ridge.

Of all the ascent routes to the Grigna, the Cermenati ridge is the simplest. By simple, we mean you won’t encounter any technical difficulties, but it is nevertheless a journey of 900m with steep and exposed parts. We start from the Pian dei Resinelli and rise through a beautiful beech forest before leaving the vegetation to admire the view of the Grigna before us. From here we walk through steep meadows to reach the real ridge that we’ll follow up to the summit. The path is always well marked. Our efforts will be rewarded by getting to the top of the peak and soaking up all the stunning views it has to offer. After a break we’ll head back down to the same road. Once we’re back at the bottom there’ll be time to relax before tucking in for dinner at our accommodation.

Today we’ll be hiking from Pian dei Resinelli to Rosalba Hut.

The day begins at Pian dei Resinelli, which makes for a really interesting walk in view of the many spectacular spires that make up the Grignetta (Southern Grigna), unique for its morphology. Our views also open up on to the Brianza and the Alps. We’ll start walking through the woods, then leave the vegetation behind for a beautiful view of the lake and the entire plain. Via a path named Delle Foppe, we will arrive at Rifugio Rosalba, one of the oldest refuges in the Alps. This is where we’ll take lunch and enjoy a spot of relaxation. From here you can admire more views that will leave you speechless. We return to the accommodation by the same road, shortly after which the transfer will take you to the airport.
